      Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some common questions about care with Dr. Ana Silva:

      What is an Endocrinologist?
Dr. Silva is an endocrinologist, a medical doctor specializing in the endocrine system, which includes glands that produce hormones. She diagnoses and treats hormonal imbalances and various conditions, such as diabetes, thyroid problems, and metabolic disorders.
What should I expect during my first visit with Dr. Ana Silva?
Your first visit with Dr. Silva will include a comprehensive review of your symptoms, medical history, and family history. A physical exam focusing on potential hormonal imbalances will be performed, along with a review of any previous lab results. Please bring a list of all medications and supplements you are currently taking.
Does Dr. Ana Silva accept my insurance?
Dr. Silva's office accepts a variety of insurance plans. To confirm your specific plan's coverage, please call the office directly with your insurance information.
      Can hormonal issues cause infertility?
Yes, hormonal imbalances are a common cause of infertility in both men and women. Dr. Silva can conduct a thorough hormonal evaluation to identify potential issues like thyroid problems, PCOS, or pituitary disorders that may be affecting your fertility.
Can a hormone problem cause high blood pressure?
While high blood pressure often doesn't stem from a single cause, some cases are linked to underlying endocrine conditions like hyperaldosteronism, pheochromocytoma, or Cushing's syndrome. An endocrinologist can investigate for these specific causes, particularly in cases of persistently high blood pressure that's difficult to manage.
What is a DEXA scan and why do I need one?
A DEXA scan is a simple, non-invasive imaging test that measures bone density. It's the gold standard for diagnosing conditions like osteopenia and osteoporosis, and helps assess your fracture risk and monitor treatment effectiveness.
Do you perform thyroid biopsies in the office?
Dr. Silva does not perform thyroid biopsies in the office. We will refer you to a radiology center for an ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy if needed. This procedure is safe and minimally invasive to evaluate thyroid nodules.
What is Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) and how can it help me?
Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) is a wearable device that tracks your glucose levels around the clock, offering real-time data and trends. It can significantly improve diabetes management by reducing finger sticks, revealing how food and activity impact your glucose, and helping prevent dangerous highs and lows.
