Cardiovascular Conditions Addressed
Dr. Kevin Hayes addresses a wide range of Cardiovascular health concerns, including:
- Type 2 Heart Block - Mobitz: With a Mobitz type 2 heart block, the electrical impulses in your heart are intermittently interrupted, causing some heartbeats to be skipped or delayed.
- Heart Murmur: A heart murmur is a sound heard during a heartbeat that may or may not indicate a problem with the heart valves.
- First Degree Heart Block: First-degree heart block is a mild condition where the electrical signals traveling through your heart take a bit longer than normal to reach the lower chambers.
- Typical Atrial Flutter: This type of atrial flutter has a distinctive sawtooth pattern on an electrocardiogram, indicating a rapid, regular heartbeat from the heart's upper chambers.
- Atrial Fibrillation: Atrial fibrillation is a type of heart rhythm disorder characterized by a quivering or irregular heartbeat in the atria (upper chambers of the heart).
- Rheumatic Aortic Valve Disorders: Aortic valve disease stemming from rheumatic fever may require surgery or other interventions to maintain proper blood flow.
- Aneurysm of Heart: A heart aneurysm is a dangerous condition where a section of the heart bulges out due to a weakness in the heart wall.
- Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation: Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation is a type of irregular heartbeat where the heart beats rapidly and erratically, but these episodes come and go suddenly.
- Septic Embolism: An infection can spread throughout the body via the bloodstream, resulting in a septic embolism, which involves a blood clot carrying infectious organisms.
- Acute Venous Embolism Thrombosis: A blood clot in a vein, often in the leg, can cause pain, swelling, and redness.
- Hypotension (Excluding Maternal): Low blood pressure, excluding cases during pregnancy.
- Congenital Aortic Valve Disorders: Congenital aortic valve disorders involve structural abnormalities of the aortic valve present from birth, potentially causing heart problems.

Cardiovascular Services Provided
Dr. Kevin Hayes offers a range of services to support your Patient's health and well-being, such as:
- Vascular Duplex Ultrasonography and Plethysmography: Vascular Duplex Ultrasonography and Plethysmography are non-invasive tests using sound waves and air pressure measurements to check blood flow in your arteries and veins.
- Cardioversion: Cardioversion is a medical procedure that uses electrical shocks to restore a normal heart rhythm.
- Cardiac Ultrasound: This test uses ultrasound technology to check the size, shape, and function of your heart.
- Cardiac Myocardial Perfusion Imaging: This non-invasive test creates pictures of your heart to check for reduced blood flow, often due to narrowed arteries.
- Tilt_Testing: Tilt table testing is a procedure that monitors your heart rate and blood pressure while slowly changing your body position to see if you have a condition called neurally mediated syncope.
- Cardiac MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) of Heart or Chest: A cardiac MRI uses strong magnets and radio waves to create detailed pictures of your heart and chest.
- Electrocardiogram (EKG): An electrocardiogram (EKG) is a simple test that measures the electrical activity of your heart to check for rhythm problems and other heart conditions.
- Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) Implantation: If you're at high risk for sudden cardiac arrest, an ICD implantation involves placing a device that will automatically detect and treat dangerous heart rhythms.
- Coronary Angioplasty: Coronary angioplasty is a procedure to open narrowed or blocked arteries in your heart.
- Chest CT (incl. Heart and Lungs): This chest CT scan, including your heart and lungs, provides detailed images for evaluating your cardiovascular health.
- Ablation for Cardiac Arrhythmias: Ablation targets areas within the heart that cause arrhythmias, restoring a normal heartbeat.
- Insertion of Left Ventricular Lead for Pacemaker or Cardioverter and Defibrillator: A wire (lead) was placed inside the main pumping chamber of my heart to help a pacemaker or defibrillator work properly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are answers to some common questions about care with Dr. Kevin Hayes:
- What is a Cardiologist?
- A cardiologist is a medical doctor specializing in the heart and blood vessels. They diagnose, treat, and prevent heart conditions like coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and high blood pressure.
- What should I expect during my first visit with Dr. Kevin Hayes?
- Your first visit with Dr. Hayes will involve a detailed discussion of your symptoms, risk factors, and family history. A physical exam and often an electrocardiogram (EKG) will be performed. Depending on your situation, further testing, such as an echocardiogram or stress test, may be recommended.
- Does Dr. Kevin Hayes accept my insurance?
- Dr. Hayes' office accepts a variety of insurance plans. Please call our office directly to confirm coverage for your specific insurance plan, including consultations and potential procedures.
- What does a heart failure diagnosis mean?
- A heart failure diagnosis means your heart isn't pumping blood as efficiently as it should. This is manageable with a combination of lifestyle changes and medications to improve heart function, reduce symptoms, and enhance your quality of life. Our team will work closely with you to develop a personalized plan.
- I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). What are the treatment options?
- Treatment for Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) focuses on controlling your heart rate, restoring a regular rhythm, and preventing blood clots. Options include medications, cardioversion procedures, and advanced techniques like catheter ablation. The best approach is tailored to your individual situation.
- What is the difference between a pacemaker and a defibrillator (ICD)?
- A pacemaker helps regulate slow heartbeats by sending electrical signals to the heart. An implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) monitors for dangerously fast heart rhythms and can deliver a shock to restore a normal rhythm.
- I've had fainting spells. How do you determine the cause?
- Evaluating fainting involves a thorough investigation, including detailed medical history, physical exam, and various tests such as EKGs, echocardiograms, tilt table tests, and heart rhythm monitors. These help us rule out any serious cardiac causes and determine the underlying reason for the fainting spells to ensure your safety.
- Does a cardiologist treat blockages in leg arteries?
- Dr. Hayes and our team often treat Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), which involves blockages in leg arteries. We manage risk factors and perform procedures like angiography and stenting to improve blood flow and relieve symptoms like leg pain.
